Provide an overview and exceptions of safety regarding shop and competition activities. This meeting is for current and prospective members of agricultural mechanics teams. Meet with all members of agriculture mechanics classes and members of mechanics teams to provide rules and expectations as well as safety
standards.
Goal #1 Improve Shop Safety Awareness
Plan of Action #1 Review shop safety rules with all members using a slideshow and printed handouts.
Demonstrate proper use of PPE (gloves, safety glasses, ear protection).
Require all members to sign a safety contract before using equipment.
Outcome Evaluated and Reported #1 Members understand and follow shop safety expectations, reducing accidents and ensuring compliance with
school/shop policies.
Goal #2 Teach Safe Tool & Equipment Operation
Plan of Action #2 Demonstrate proper use of three high-risk tools (table saw, welder, grinder).
Split members into small groups to practice under advisor/officer supervision.
Post quick-reference safety signs near each tool station.
Outcome Evaluated and Reported #2 Members gain confidence using tools safely, with improved skills and reduced misuse of equipment.
Goal #3 Prepare Members for Emergency Situations
Plan of Action #3 Show members where fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency shut-offs are located.
Conduct a mock emergency drill (e.g., tool injury or small fire).
Provide members with a step-by-step emergency response sheet.
Outcome Evaluated and Reported #3 Members can quickly and correctly respond to emergencies, ensuring a safer shop environment and quicker
response time if accidents occur.
