Hydroponic Tower Gardens
Sep 7 2026 12:00AM - Nov 1 2026 12:00AM
Location - Huntington, Texas
Students in agriculture classrooms will assemble hydroponic towers to explore different areas of food growth. Students will analyze needs of fertilizer, amounts of irrigation, plant types, and light needs. Growth of different types of lettuce and basal will be tracked throughout the school year. Students in agriculture classrooms will assemble hydroponic towers to explore different areas of food growth. Goal #1 Increase Plant Growth Efficiency
Plan of Action #1 Set up nutrient solution schedules and monitor pH and EC levels twice per week.
Rotate crops (lettuce, herbs, leafy greens) to test which performs best in the towers.
Track plant height and leaf count weekly in AET.
Outcome Evaluated and Reported #1 Plants grow 15–20% faster than traditional soil methods, with data proving the efficiency of hydroponic towers.
Goal #2 Reduce Water and Fertilizer Waste
Plan of Action #2 Measure water usage and nutrient consumption at the start and end of each week.
Adjust drip schedules to minimize runoff while keeping plants healthy.
Reuse and filter nutrient solution where possible.
Outcome Evaluated and Reported #2 Water usage decreases by 30% compared to soil gardening, and nutrient costs are reduced, making the
system more sustainable.
Goal #3 Educate Chapter Members and Community
Plan of Action #3 Create a rotating schedule for FFA members to help maintain towers.
Host a demonstration day for students, staff, and community members to learn about hydroponics.
Share progress through social media and school newsletters.
Outcome Evaluated and Reported #3 Increased awareness of alternative agriculture methods, with at least 50 people engaged through
demonstrations or outreach.
